Open Reddit links in the app

Paste a Reddit URL and get a link that opens the Reddit app instead of the browser — with a web fallback for everyone else.

Free forever. No login. Works with reddit.com links.

Which Reddit links work

toThe.App recognises links on reddit.com, old.reddit.com. These URL shapes are handled:

  • https://www.reddit.com/user/USERNAME/

On iPhone

Reddit publishes its own link-handling rules, so the URL is passed through and iOS decides whether the app opens.

On Android

The Reddit app opens when it is installed, and the browser takes over when it is not.

Known limitations

No link can force a phone to open an app. These are the cases where a Reddit link falls back to the web:

  • On iOS the handoff depends entirely on Reddit's Universal Link configuration, which toThe.App cannot influence.
  • old.reddit.com URLs are recognised but the app normalises them to the standard view.

Questions

How do I make a Reddit link open in the app?

Paste the Reddit URL into the generator above and select Make short link. Share the result. On a phone with Reddit installed, the link offers to open the app; otherwise it continues to the Reddit website.

Which Reddit URLs are supported?

Links on reddit.com, old.reddit.com are recognised. Typical shapes: https://www.reddit.com/r/SUBREDDIT/ · https://www.reddit.com/r/SUBREDDIT/comments/POST_ID/slug/ · https://www.reddit.com/user/USERNAME/.

What happens on iPhone?

Reddit publishes its own link-handling rules, so the URL is passed through and iOS decides whether the app opens.

What happens on Android?

The Reddit app opens when it is installed, and the browser takes over when it is not.

Why did the Reddit app not open?

The device makes the final call. Common reasons: the app is not installed, the specific URL type is not covered (On iOS the handoff depends entirely on Reddit's Universal Link configuration, which toThe.App cannot influence.), or the link was tapped inside another app's in-app browser, which will not hand off to a native app. The web fallback always works.
